We are facing an epidemic of pornography on the web of which the repercussions remain not fully understood. In fact it is frightening. With the click of a mouse, anyone, at any age, at any time can view porn online.
Governments are still tied up by the “it is a free-speech issue” argument. The porn industry has managed to hold onto the theory that porn is victimless entertainment which involves only the user and the consenting adults who participate. Regulations has yet to meet up with reality and with technology. In a global where anyone can produce and upload porn videos or images, the web has become filled to the brim with hardcore pornography and disturbing content that no one should be exposed to, aside from our children!
A written report from the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, N.J.,entitled, “The Social Costs of Pornography” points to new social science and brain research, and finds evidence that pornography causes multifaceted harms and warns that people will pay the price because of this.
Porn is teaching negative behaviors and attitudes towards sexuality. Even though for adults this is often a big problem, for children that are seeing it, it is a disaster that may impact their capability to have any kind of healthy sexual relationship when they grow up.
There is no amount of education or warning that can prevent children from viewing pornography on the Internet today. The average child will see porn by age eleven online. Children are curious, children share links by email, by chat, on smart phones… The only real solution today is to install a porn filter on each computer your child has access to.
